Senior or Transitional Assistance

Assist senior family members in remaining independent in managing finances

  • Assist with budgeting. Make certain individual is comfortable with bill payment method. Provide online bill payment, set up e-bills and automatic bill payments as available.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts with them on a monthly basis to assure they are aware of their resources and possible limitations.
  • Provide monthly reports of income and expenses to senior and/or authorized family members. Prepare charts and graphs as requested to assure understanding of information.
  • Work with bankers or investment advisors to assure understanding and clarification of issues.
  • Review credit card expenditures with individual to assure all charges appear to be appropriate. Follow up on anything that does not appear to be in order.
  • Help file insurance claims and follow up with medical providers for payment of invoices due.
  • Assist in Social Security or Medicare issues. Assure that appropriate benefits are being received.

Evaluate and assist with changes in residential status

  • Provide information regarding selected assisted living and independent living facilities that may provide viable options for the family. Evaluate family finances to assure options are manageable.
  • Work with the facility selected to understand payment options and requirements. Assist family in understanding terms of agreement in entering facility and upon termination of agreement due to move or passing away of the individual.
  • Work with family, attorneys and investment advisors to determine best method of payment to be used for large up-front facility charges, as well as ongoing monthly and other incidental fees (facility charges for transportation, beauty shop, convenience store, etc).
  • Assist with rental of furniture if moving to new residence before furniture can be transferred from previous residence or prior to purchase of new furniture.

Assure information is available at the time it is needed

  • Planning Binder summarizes all benefits, assets and liabilities and provides contact info for each item in the event senior family member passes away or is no longer able to handle his or her finances. Binder can be prepared confidentially with senior and only shared with family on passing if requested by senior, or can be prepared and shared at a family meeting at your home.
